Some days on the water simply stay with you, and the Green Canyon is one of them. It starts with a relaxed morning pickup from your Antalya hotel, and as the coast fades behind you the road climbs through scented pine forests toward the wild heart of the Manavgat highlands. Stepping aboard our roomy boat, you drift out onto the mirror-still, emerald surface of Oymapinar Lake. The canyon walls rise hundreds of metres on either side, sheer and green, while the captain glides into hushed inlets and slips beneath the huge face of the Oymapinar Dam. At every sheltered cove there's a chance to dive into the cool, glass-clear water for a swim, then dry off on the sun deck as hidden waterfalls and silent reflections drift by. Camera-lovers will run out of memory card long before they run out of views. Midday brings a generous open buffet of grilled chicken, garden-fresh salads and seasonal fruit, served against the unforgettable backdrop of the gorge. After lunch there's free time for one last swim or a lazy sunbathe before the boat cruises gently home and your driver returns you to your hotel, sun-kissed and smiling.
